I created a Summer Reading List for myself this year. I missed out on a lot of that back in school and TV has really taken over my life, so I figured what the hell.
I'm still stuck running the races with Seabiscuit. I think it's because I have seen so many documentries on this particular All-American saga, that I'm just not motivated to get through those last 50 pages.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay patiently awaits my attention off on my bedside table, Red Hat Linux for Dummies is a nightly scan through and the Harry Potter series is soon to follow, but tonight I am absolutely entranced with True Porn Clerk Stories.
I figure I'm late on this particular morsel of blog reading, but hot damn, it sure brings me back. I worked in a porn store from the ages of 18-20. It wasn't totally porn, but it might as well have been, as Texas has laws that you must have a certain amount of mainstream flicks to offset the dirty delectables. Certainly two of my better years. Kid in a candy store comes nowhere near the appropriate analogy, more like an 18 year old in a porn store. Peppermint sticks and Pop-Rocks had nothin on this place!
I'm currently on page two of this read and it just gets better with each entry. I hate to be trite, but I'm going to...these entries are like a porn clerk's Bible. So many times had I experienced the same situations as this particular clerk. It brings back both fun and disturbing thoughts to my days of old (as my days of old often do). Give it a looksee, read a bit, laugh, cry, whatever and then go rent a juicy porn. Be nice to the clerk though, you never know what stories they will share about YOU!
It?s Free Preview week here in The Palace.
My local digital cable company is offering even more channels for my perusing pleasure. Among the lineup is The National Geographic Channel, The Discovery Channel in Spanish and Nickelodeon?s Games & Sports network.
So I?m a flippin and flippin and the Nickelodeon G&S channel has old episodes of ?Double Dare? . The nostalgia sets in enough for me to devote a few moments of idle time to this trip back to the Green Slime Era. The Final Challenge approaches and one of the prizes is a trip to Space Camp.
That got me to thinkin and you know that brings about interesting things for all of us, right? Right?? I wonder if anyone that has gone to Space Camp ever become an astronaut? After a bit of Googling around the world, I find this article. Bummer. No alumni have yet to cross the Final Frontier.
But don?t lose hope dear reader, there are millions of space miles to cover and one or two lucky lil campers will make it.
As I sit back in my new kick ass leather chair, eating my dinner of cheese and Pringles, I watch this week?s new episode of "Monster House"and think, ?Life is Good?very good.?
This particular episode reminds me of why I watch the ?Monster? shows. I absolutely dig seeing the construction unfold and come together, the outrageous modifications and general comedy these shows bring to the table?
but I must admit, I have ulterior motives.
Let?s take a ride in the WayBack Machine, shall we?
It was the first season of ?Monster Garage? ,Kevin walked into the living room, took a looksee at the Gearheads in motion and innocently asked, ?Whatcha watchin?? To which I replied, ?Porn.?
I'm not sure what I enjoyed most about tonight's Astros-Cubs match up...
Maybe it was the 3-0 lead Houston took in the bottom of the 1st...
Maybe it was watching how fast Lofton took off like a jet around the bases...
Maybe it was the incredibly girlish move by Aramis Ramirez when he shrieked as he let a soft fly ball drop on the field...
Maybe it was when Chip was doing a promo and said, "Want to go where no Cub's fan has gone before?" and Kevin chimed in with, "The World Series?" Ah, the pessimistic view of a true Cub's fan...
Maybe it was that 2-run homer by the Cub's pitcher (Zambrano, yeah I said PITCHER) to pull the Cubbies even with Houston...
Maybe it was when Kevin did his "In your face" dance (several times) around the living room after Alou hit a 2-run homer to take the lead which was followed by Alou in the dugout performing some sort of cowboyesque, horsey motion thingy...
Nah, all that's well and good but ya know what I enjoyed most about tonight's game?
The fact that I don't have to go to work tomorrow and listen to the various gloating comments of my fellow co-workers.
Sure, there's still Kevin to deal with...
But I have a feeling once I shoot the "I'm still the Wifey, you have to sleep with me tonight...or do you...look" from across the room, he?ll settle down a bit.
sigh
I will get my Linux box up and running tomorrow (after many months of waiting) and get my learn on. I?m going to follow Huggie?s example and install the most basic of packages so I can get the most out of my Linux Loving experience.
I will keep ya?ll abreast of my progress, minor details though; I don?t want to withhold my regular ?fascinating? entries from you dear readers, now would I?
As you can see, dear reader, my site is finally back up and functioning properly. It only took approximately 24 hours for the recovery to take effect, but there were many bumps in the road. The hard drive on my host server died, thus calling for an emergency repair and recovery. The data I was seeing through my FTP sessions was a month old. Well that's no good considering I've only had this account for about 1 week. The data was finally back this morning, but none of my cgi scripts were functioning. Again, no good. The permissions on all my data were set to a different user (possibly the old owner of my new space). So after contacting Tech Support (I really hate being on the other end),a few hours pass by and ta dah, all is functioning properly.
Not exactly my best introduction to my new host, but it could have been much worse.
Vince's band, Thermis, played Friday night and Kevin and I shuffled in around 6 AM the following day.
The band had a great set, Steve and I slammed several celebratory shots and I was introduced to one of Chicago's 5 AM bars. Oh man...my recovery period has greatly extended since I marked 'adulthood'. Maybe it's due to the fact that I went out Thursday as well, but who knows. All of it equaled out to a slumber filled Saturday. So today it's getting the house in order, going for a manicure with the neighbor chick and checking into those MT plug-ins I am so excited about.
I've found quite a few things I would like to do with my blog and will attempt to put them into practice this weekend.
This is a fabulous resource for MT PLugins. Hopefully I will not allow myself to hole up the entire weekend indoors tinkering around with MT, but hey, it's highly possible.
It's a new Tech Kick and I don't know about ya'll, but when I get the fever for the flavor, I just keep on truckin'!
Oh, man that was bad...
