Blah...

Blah blah blah blah...

That pretty much sums up my day.

It wasn't a total wash though; I laid out quite a bit of groundwork for my SUS Server project. Most of it was organizing how I want to treat the different levels of importance for each release, charting out who gets hit first and so on. I'm feeling more comfortable with the process as a whole, especially since Microsoft announced almost all patches, unless an emergency comes about, will only be released on a monthly basis. Since that announcement a few months ago, it has been much easier to alert the users, get machines patched and discover any issues along the way.

All that being said, it won't matter how hard I work to make this effortless and practically invisible to the users, some of them will complain anyway. We try very hard to understand the position our users are in, but sometimes they make it difficult for us to throw compassion and patience their way. The way IT Folk get treated sometimes just amazes me. Before I go on dear reader, let me lay down a few points before you race off to my lil comments box...

*Yes, we know you've been burned before by other IT Departments and possibly even this very department.
*Yes, we understand you need technology A and server B to accomplish your daily tasks.
*Yes, we also understand The Bossman, The BMOC and just about everyone else on this planet will hold you personally responsible if said tasks are not accomplished in a timely fashion.
*No, we aren't just sitting around playing video games and thinking of ways to fuck up your world.
And finally?
*Yes, we ARE here to help YOU.

On the other hand?

*There are at least 400 other people who think they are just as important as you and are submitting their issues and concerns at the same time.
*When we tell you we are working on your issue, believe us.
*Most of us, have zero control, power or say so on just about everything that pisses you off. Don?t kill the messenger (trite, but good advice all the same).
*We have rough days, deadlines and timely tasks to do just like you.
And finally?
*Yes, we ARE here to help YOU.

IT Folk take a lot of abuse, but that?s what comes with the gig. We knew that when we signed up. But sometimes, man, sometimes it?s just too much. Our Cup of Abuse does indeed, overflow.

I?m not saying you shouldn?t receive good service in a timely fashion. I?m not saying your issues are unimportant. I?m not even saying you?re a bit of a drama queen. What I am saying, however, is very simple. In fact, it?s so simple, that it?s one of only two House Rules when we play poker. What I am saying is?

Don?t be a dick.

Simple, right?

Come on, say it with me?

Don?t be a dick?

Um yeah, hi. I just noticed that Vince has one of those cool optical mouses with the red light and I don't. I also can't get Kazaa to work on my laptop when I plug it in to the port that Groby's computer is plugged in to. I saw you were eating lunch and so I figured you could fix these two serious problems ASAP. I have a build due tomorrow.

Aw damn, Paul...fucking hysterical!

Absolute genius.

Classic.

BRAVO!

ENCORE, ENCORE!

Funny, whatever. Get working on it, Princess!

"Yes, we know you've been burned before by other IT Departments and possibly even this very department."

Possibly?

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Wow that was funny.

I agree with Hubby, no dilly-dally'ing until I get my cool mouse dammit!! Millions of dollars are at stake here! Don't think I won't blame it all on you and marketing.
